Brief Introduction about Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences
The former of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences was named Zhejiang Agriculture Improvement Institution from 1911 to 1951. In 1951, it renamed as Zhejiang Institution of Agricultural Institution, and up to 1960, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences was officially established. December 17th 1957 and January 5th 1958 were the amusing days worthy of pride and cherishing for the people involved, on which inspection of Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou in our academy brought up a great encouragement to the extensive science staff. After 88 years′ construction, Zhejiang academy of agricultural sciences has developed into a comprehensive agricultural science entity of splendorous research force, discipline advantage and special characteristic. During the 8th “five years project”, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences ranked 2nd in the terms of comprehensive research ability among the China, therefore inflicting institutions as fellows husbandry, crop and nuclear energy institutes.
Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences (IAHVS)
IAHVS has been the right center focusing on the research of animal husbandry and veterinary sciences in Zhejiang province. IAHVS has been always engaging in the researches of selection and breeding in fine varieties of livestock, forage technology in scale, embryonic engineering technology, and the new technology of diagnose prevention & cure of infections diseases and parasitic diseases. Its crucial responsibility is to solve the key technology hurdles in development of animal husbandry and veterinary field. It ranked the Nation's 21st among 1200 opponents for its composite records in the national appraisal of scientific research strength of all agricultural research institutions in 8th “five-year” project. It scored 3rd of its own kind all over the country, and 1st in Zhejiang province.
IAHVS has a work force of 92, among which including 25 high (consisting of 8 research fellows and 17 vice- research fellows) - and 13 intermediate-ranking scientists, Affiliated to IAHVS, there are 5 research departments (which consisted of pig breeding, nutrition, farm livestock, poultry breeding and veterinary), 1 provincial - level key laboratories—genetics and breeding lab on poultry and livestock, 2 paternal pig farms, 1 paternal goat farm and 1 paternal rabbit farm. In order to accelerate the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements, nowadays a large-scale, non-common hazard model base for pig raising has been located in Haining agricultural development zone, into which 18,000,000 Yuan was injected by ZAHVS. In this piglet SEW system, which is the most advanced technology internationally, utilized as general technical framework was integrated into green pork production system. The implementation of this project provided a practical direction for pig raising industry in Zhejiang province.
In recent decade, above 120 items of all kinds of projects has been presided by IAHVS, 46 items of the Academy's research results have been achieved, among which 4 were awarded 2nd and 3rd class National innovation Prizes, 35 were proffered 1st and 2nd class Prizes for science and Technology Progress by the Ministry and the Province. We have successfully selected and produced two new lean-type swine terminal lines:Duroc and Zhejiang middle white pig, specialized sets of duck with high-reproduction such as Jiangnan I, Jiangnan II, Green egg shell I and White egg shell II and coarse-wool rabbit. The following research areas are at the advanced level in the world: the exploitation and industrialization of barley-type diet using enzymatic technique, the exploitation and utilization of non-conventional feedstuff, the amino acid nutrition and the ideal protein pattern of swine and poultry, the feed additives and the concentrate feed at the different phase, the exploitation and utilization of the grass feed, the high efficient、fast and low-cost fatten technique for the beef cattle,the process of high quality preserved egg,the embryo engineering of domestic animals, the high-effect vaccine、medicine and the new corresponding prevention technique of chicken、duck、rabbit and swine, the diagnosable technique for parasite of cow and sheep. The above-mentioned achievements have spread across the province abroad and gained the society and economy benefit remarkably. 
In the future, IAHVS will devote itself to such fields as parental livestock project with top quality, raising and management technology with control to environmental pollution and high & new technology rejected into husbandry. With progressing of above issue, IAHVS will act a leading role in industrialization of green agriculture.
Research Outreach of Our Department
Our research focus on breeding, industrialization & development technology in the duck and goose. We developed several techniques in the fields of following areas, such as selection of duck sets, establishment of new breeding technology, exploration of high-production mechanism and molecular biology and establishment of standardization system.
In recent decade, the projects authorized were as fellows: National key-level scientific project “Selection and Breeding High-Production & Disease-Resistance New Duck Strain”; Agricultural ministry key-level project “Selection and Breeding of Shaoxing Duck Sets”, “Key Tech and Application of Top-quality, Safety and High-Efficiency Industrialization in Shaoxing Duck Sets”; Zhejiang Province natural scientific foundation projects: “Induction and Crossing Application of Muscovy”, “ Characterization and Selection of White Goose in the East of Zhejiang Province”, “Research on Crossing and Application in Wild Duck”, “Recovery Research on Jinyun Duck”,  “Microsatellite Markers of Early Mature & High–Production Used in Egg-Duck”, “Research on Genetic Laws of Green-shell Gene in Duck and Application in Breeding”, “Selection and Breeding of Shaoxing Green-shell Line and Industrialization”; International key-level cooperative project: “Selection of Top-quality Meat-type Duck” (Sino-Russian) and “ Key Tech Research on Goose Fatty Liver Production” (sine-Hungary).
Now, our department consists of 9 team members, that is, one chief expertise, 1 research fellow, 5 vice research fellows and two masters. We also have a postdoctoral movable station. If somebody has interest in this field, please contact with us.
